Cambodia and Korea Forge Stronger Ties with Opening of New Children’s Hospital Facility

On March 6, 2026, the Cambodian Ministry of Health and the Korean Embassy unveiled the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building, a significant addition to the National Children’s Hospital. This impressive facility, with a budget of nearly $17 million, symbolizes the enduring partnership between Cambodia and Korea, aiming to enhance healthcare services for the nation’s youth.

At the inauguration ceremony, His Excellency Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, expressed his optimism regarding the project. “This building represents not only an advancement in our healthcare infrastructure but also a beacon of hope for countless children and families throughout Cambodia. It is a testament to the cooperative spirit that our nations share,” he stated. The new facility is envisioned as a place that will not only provide treatment but also play a pivotal role in nurturing the future of the country’s youth.

H.E. Kim Chang-Yong, the Korean Ambassador to Cambodia, highlighted the significance of the collaboration. The Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building marks the second phase of a larger initiative funded by a grant from the Republic of Korea, totaling nearly 16.99 million US dollars. Ambassador Kim emphasized the state-of-the-art facilities and modern medical technology that this new building will introduce, significantly enhancing the quality of healthcare services tailored for children in Cambodia.

The newly constructed Si La Primary Hospital building is an architectural feat, standing at 24.7 meters tall, with dimensions of 37.80 meters in width and 76.80 meters in length, spanning five floors and a total area of 9,053 square meters. Each level is meticulously designed to prioritize essential medical services, featuring outpatient consultation rooms, specialized pediatric departments, a pharmacy dedicated to inpatient care, and facilities for rehabilitation, dialysis, and various pediatric specialties, including oncology and respiratory diseases.

The opening of this new facility not only underscores the commitment of both nations to improving healthcare for children but also reflects a shared vision for a healthier future for Cambodia. As the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building begins its journey, it stands as a promising landmark for innovative medical practices and a brighter tomorrow for Cambodian children.
