Sewage System Project Supported by World Bank Loan Underway

Construction on a sewerage system project supported by a World Bank loan is in progress, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT)’s Facebook page.

On 6 December, 2018, the General Department of Public Works conducted a meeting attended by multiple relevant agencies regarding the provisions of connecting public drainage and the technical issues involved.

As quoted on the MPWT Facebook page, H.E Heng Rathpiseth, Director General of Public Works of MPWT said that “currently, the drainage system project of collecting wastewater in Siem Reap is being studied by SUEZ supported by development agency Asia CDIA under the World Bank’s investment plan”.

For other provinces, the General Department of Public Works will continue to study options after it concludes the project in Siem Reap, the ministry added.

At the same time, the meeting also discussed the preparation of sustainable financial packages for the management of sewage systems and the technical measures requiring a pass through acetic or no acetic acid in the area that has drainage system and proper treatment systems.

In September, the World Bank revealed its plan to grant US$50 million in loans to Cambodia for development projects, of which US$20 million is for a water and drainage system project in Siem Reap Province. (Read more )
