Dara Sakor International Airport Set for Completion in 2020

The Dara Sakor International Airport project in Koh Kong Province, part of the Dara Sakor Seashore Resort owned by a Chinese firm, is set to be completed and in operation in 2020.

The announcement was made by Mr Wang Chao, vice president of Union Development Group (UDG), the company behind the project, to reporters during the Cambodia China Journalist Association visit to the project in late May.

“We plan to finish building this airport in May 2020 and in October we will have pilot flights, and in December of 2020, we will fly officially,” he said.

The company plans to inject US$200 million to build a 60m-wide, 3,200-metre long runway and a new terminal.

Based on information from the company, once completed, the airport will be able to handle airplanes with the capacity of the Boeing 777 and Airbus A360.

According to a senior official of the State Secretariat for Civil Aviation (SSCA) who chose not to be named, their team have not received complete information on the project.

“We are not fully aware about progress to date, due to lack of cooperation and coordination from the project company,” he said.
