Construction on 69-storey condominium starts in Phnom Penh

Chinese construction company, Morgan Ford, has invested US$600 million to build a 69-storey skyscraper along the Mekong River, in the central of Phnom Penh.
Construction officially started this week on the 220-metre high 69-story condominium building, Morgan En Maison located on the Mekong River in Chroy Changva district, according to Ding Yongjun, managing director of Morgan Ford writing on their official Facebook page on 25 November.
“This condominium has five U-shaped units on a total of 2.4 hectares. All the buildings have a total floor area of more than 400,000 square metres,” and the building is expected to be completed in 2022, the source said.
H.E Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister, said that the construction of skyscrapers in Phnom Penh is a contribution to the development of the construction sector and has enhanced the beauty of the city, and increased employment opportunities for the Cambodian people.
Real estate firm Bonna Realty Group recently released a report in October showing that Phnom Penh currently has 23 buildings over 100 metres tall, and among them are six over 150-meters tall. When complete the Morgan En Maison will become one of the tallest buildings in Cambodia.
