ADB Provides USD 350 Million in Grants to Support Cambodia’s Energy Sector Development

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced a significant investment in Cambodia’s energy sector, providing approximately USD 350 million in grants and concessional technical assistance over the past three years. This funding aims to bolster the development of the national electricity grid and promote green and renewable energy initiatives.

During a recent meeting, His Excellency Keo Rattanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, expressed his gratitude for ADB’s support, highlighting the valuable partnership and leadership of Ms. Jyotsana Varma, ADB Country Director in Cambodia. The Minister noted that the investment has been crucial for advancing the country’s energy projects, aligning with Cambodia’s goals for sustainable development.

In addition to this financial backing, approximately 30 major French companies are also exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia’s energy sector. During a meeting with the Ministry of Mines and Energy on September 12, 2025, these companies expressed interest in waste-to-energy, hydrogen, and hydroelectric power projects. This indicates a growing interest in strengthening economic partnerships between Cambodia and France, particularly in the renewable energy space.

As Cambodia continues to develop its energy infrastructure, the collaboration with ADB and international investors is expected to enhance the country’s capacity for sustainable energy production and distribution, further contributing to its economic growth and development goals.
