France Explores Renewable Energy Investments in Cambodia

In a significant move to strengthen economic ties, French representatives have engaged in discussions regarding potential investment opportunities in Cambodia, focusing on innovative energy solutions, including electricity generation from waste. As of late 2023, talks between French parliamentarians and Cambodia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy are progressing toward the formation of a productive partnership.

During a recent visit, the French ambassador, along with a delegation of experts, participated in an advisory council to explore cooperation in sectors where France has established expertise. The discussions centered around harnessing alternative energy sources such as electricity generated from waste, hydrogen, and hydroelectric power.

His Excellency Keo Rattanak, the General Director of the Department of Mines and Energy, emphasized the importance of these collaborations, seeking to leverage France’s advanced technologies to enhance Cambodia’s energy capabilities.

This dialogue comes at a time when Cambodia is experiencing a surge in foreign investments, with eight new investors confirmed under the short-term investment capital initiative announced by the Cambodia Development Organization (CDC) earlier this year. As of now, Cambodia has attracted a diverse range of investors, showcasing strong interest from countries like China, the United Kingdom, and Japan, among others. (Read more).

The ongoing discussions not only pave the way for economic growth but also highlight the increasing global focus on sustainable energy solutions. With a commitment to sustainability, Cambodia aims to position itself as a hub for green energy investments in the region.
