Phnom Penh: The historic diplomatic relationship spanning over six decades between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Singapore has achieved another milestone in parliamentary and executive collaboration. On the afternoon of August 19, 2026, HE Cheam Yeap, First Vice President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, hosted a courtesy call and bilateral meeting with HE Steven Pang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Singapore to Cambodia, at the National Assembly Palace.

During the dialogue, HE Cheam Yeap proposed deepening parliamentary exchanges across leadership levels, specialized committees, and parliamentary friendship groups, alongside enhancing mutual consultation within regional and international inter-parliamentary platforms such as AIPA, IPU, and APPF. To support Cambodia’s digital parliament initiative, the First Vice President highlighted the importance of leveraging Singapore’s expertise in legislative frameworks, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and IT capacity building. The meeting also addressed economic expansion and green energy transitions, recognizing Singapore as a premier investor in Cambodia’s financial, logistics, real estate, and services sectors. Both parties underscored legal support for the cross-border renewable energy export project from Cambodia to Singapore, establishing a key ASEAN benchmark for climate resilience.

In response, Ambassador Steven Pang pledged to further strengthen bilateral ties during his tenure, emphasizing enhanced tourism integration between the two nations. He noted that Singapore’s extensive international flight connectivity offers a prime opportunity to promote multi-destination travel, encouraging global tourists to take the brief two-hour flight to explore Cambodia’s cultural heritage, traditional performing arts, cuisine, and urban attractions beyond the iconic Angkor Wat. Crucially, both leaders acknowledged that online scams and cybercrime represent a pervasive global threat requiring coordinated international countermeasures. They expressed full support for joint operations and intelligence sharing between Cambodian and Singaporean law enforcement agencies to decisively crack down on tech-driven fraud and online criminal networks.
