Selfie Travel Asia Eyes Resumption of Direct Tourist Flights Between Astana and Sihanoukville

A major aviation and tourism player seeks government support to reactivate its direct travel route connecting Kazakhstan’s capital to Cambodia’s coastal hub, boosting bilateral visitor exchanges.

Efforts to bolster Cambodia’s tourism sector received fresh momentum as Selfie Travel Asia expressed its firm desire to resume direct passenger flight services between the Kazakhstani capital of Astana and the coastal city of Preah Sihanoukville. The initiative was formally brought to light during a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Kursad Bakir, founder and CEO of Selfie Travel Asia, on October 17, 2026.

During the discussion, the CEO outlined the company’s strategic goal to revive the Astana-Sihanoukville air route. To ensure a smooth and commercially viable restart, the leadership sought guidance, regulatory support, and administrative facilitation from the Royal Government of Cambodia.

Prime Minister Hun Manet extended a warm welcome to the proposal, encouraging the firm to coordinate closely with Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism, whose minister was also present at the meeting. Reaffirming the government’s steadfast commitment to the industry, the Prime Minister emphasized that state mechanisms remain fully dedicated to supporting all stakeholders and operators active in Cambodia’s tourism ecosystem.

Specializing in aviation and specialized tourist transport operations, Selfie Travel Asia previously connected Central Asian travelers directly to Cambodia’s premier coastal destination when it operated successful charter flights from Astana to Sihanoukville back in 2024. The prospective revival of this air corridor is expected to significantly enhance tourist arrivals and deepen connectivity between the two regions. (read more)
