Bentley Systems Expands Tokyo Operations to Drive Japan’s Digital Infrastructure Shift

Bentley Systems is significantly expanding its presence in Japan by opening a new regional headquarters in Tokyo, with plans to more than double its local workforce over the next three years.

This strategic growth is designed to support the Japanese government’s i-Construction initiative, which mandates a nationwide transition from traditional 2D drawings to 3D digital delivery for all infrastructure projects by 2029.

The company is scaling its operations to help engineers and contractors improve productivity, strengthen resilience, and enhance decision-making throughout the infrastructure lifecycle. To achieve this, Bentley is deploying three core technologies. Its Cesium platform enables advanced 3D geospatial visualization, providing the foundation for government-backed digital city models.

The Seequent software focuses on subsurface modeling to minimize geotechnical risks, which is particularly critical in earthquake-prone regions. Additionally, the iTwin platform synchronizes engineering and asset data, allowing previously disconnected teams to collaborate through a shared digital twin.

Bentley’s Cesium and digital twin capabilities are integrated into the Smart Construction solutions of EARTHBRAIN.

These tools are already being integrated into local infrastructure projects, including key partnerships with firms like EARTHBRAIN. By strengthening its local team and collaborating with regional partners, Bentley aims to set a global benchmark for infrastructure digitalization, helping to bridge the gap between the rising demand for resilient projects and the limitations of the current workforce.
