Bentley Systems Wins Gold Stevie Award for AI Breakthrough in Engineering

Bentley Systems has won the Gold Stevie Award for Technology Breakthrough of the Year in the Construction and Civil Engineering Technology category at the 2026 Stevie Awards for Technology Excellence.

The award recognizes Bentley’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for STAAD. Pro and MicroStation, which bring agentic artificial intelligence into established infrastructure engineering workflows.

Bentley’s MCP technology allows engineers to communicate design intentions using natural language, while AI assistants handle high-level reasoning, and Bentley software performs modeling and analysis. Engineers remain in control, reviewing results, adjusting models, and validating designs for accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance.

“Infrastructure engineering demands more than plausible answers. It requires accuracy, transparency, and control,” said Julien Moutte, chief technology officer at Bentley Systems. He said the technology gives AI assistants access to Bentley’s validated engineering and simulation capabilities, enabling faster workflows without sacrificing engineering rigor.

The STAAD.Pro MCP server allows structural engineers to query models, define load cases, retrieve analysis results, and optimize designs through AI assistants. Meanwhile, the MicroStation MCP server brings similar AI-driven capabilities to CAD and BIM modeling. In one demonstration, an AI assistant recreated the parametric geometry of London’s Gherkin tower from a text prompt inside MicroStation.

ARC Advisory Group described Bentley’s MCP approach as a disciplined way of applying AI to infrastructure engineering, with AI handling tasks through validated engineering tools while professionals retain oversight and final decision-making authority.

The 2026 Stevie Awards for Technology Excellence attracted more than 700 nominations from 37 countries and territories, with winners selected by more than 180 technology and business professionals worldwide. Award winners will be honored on October 28, 2026, in Paris, France.
