Cambodian Government Constructed Nearly 6,000 Homes for Veterans by 2023

From 2008 to 2023, the Cambodian government built a total of 5,569 houses for impoverished veterans, according to PM Hun Manet. This announcement was made in a message commemorating the 17th anniversary of Cambodian Veterans Day on 21 June 2024.

In his message, Samdech Hun Manet emphasised the importance of the Ministry of Social Affairs continuing to effectively implement services that support the welfare of veterans and their families. He highlighted the role of the National Social Assistance Fund in providing social security for veterans across the country.

Additionally, he urged the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Land Management to collaborate with other relevant ministries to enhance the implementation of housing projects and social land concessions for former armed forces members and their families, as outlined in the Royal Government’s public investment plan.

Recognising the significant contributions of veterans to the nation, Samdech Techo, President of the Cambodian Veterans Association, and Samdech Kittipritthbandit have overseen the construction of these homes. In 2023 alone, a total of 451 houses were built across various provinces: 10 in Kampong Cham, 10 in Kampong Chhnang, 20 in Prey Veng, 125 in Svay Rieng, 175 in Oddar Meanchey, 107 in Tbong Khmum, 3 in Preah Vihear, and one in Pailin.

Furthermore, significant infrastructure projects were completed at the 317 Techo Phnom Chhat Military Development Centre, including a 6-room school, a 12-room school, an administration building, a teacher dormitory with 20 rooms, a general ward with 16 rooms, nine operating buildings with 20 rooms, and a hospital building in Bun Rany Sen Chey village, Damnak Troyeung. This extensive development underscores the government’s commitment to honouring the sacrifices of veterans and improving their living conditions.
