Cambodia Achieves Historic Milestone in Water Supply Management

The Phnom Penh Autonomous Water Supply Authority (PAPWSA) has made a significant advance in urban water management by digitally connecting raw water mains without interrupting the clean water supply in Koh Nora. This milestone was celebrated in a ceremony led by His Excellency Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and His Excellency UENO Atsushi, Japan’s Ambassador to Cambodia.

His Excellency Long Naro highlighted the achievement as a historic first for Cambodia, ensuring uninterrupted clean water supply while supporting economic activities in Phnom Penh and Takhmao. Previously, conventional methods would have forced a week-long shutdown of the Niroth Water Treatment Plant, risking a 30% loss in clean water for about 1 million users.

The project included advanced electromechanical systems and a new raw water pumping station, boosting total capacity to 460,000 cubic meters per day. This initiative strengthens water infrastructure and emphasizes the collaboration between the Cambodian government and international partners for a sustainable future.
