Cambodia & Japan Join Forces to Advance Smart Agriculture

In a significant move to bolster the agricultural sector, Cambodia and Japan have committed to fostering cooperation in the development of modern and smart agriculture. This partnership aims to enhance food security and promote sustainable food systems in the region.

During a key meeting held on 2 June, HE Prak David, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, met with Mr. Hagiwara Hideki, Head of Delegation from Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The discussion centred around the ASEAN-Japan Cooperation Plan MIDORI and detailed various development projects focused on smart agriculture, human resource development, capacity building, and effective forest management.

Secretary of State Prak David expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its continuous support across multiple sectors, particularly in agriculture, which is vital for Cambodia’s economy and the well-being of its citizens. He emphasised that prioritising smart agriculture not only enhances food security but also aims for a sustainable balance between economic growth and environmental conservation. He assured that farmers would benefit significantly, as they would be able to maintain their operations smoothly even after project completion.

In related remarks made at the National Assembly and Senate sessions on 3 June, Samdech Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated his government’s commitment to prioritising the agricultural sector. He highlighted the importance of improving livelihoods and ensuring food security for all Cambodians as a fundamental objective of the 7th mandate Royal Government.

As Cambodia embraces innovative agricultural practices in collaboration with Japan, the prospects for enhanced resilience and productivity in the agricultural sector look promising, paving the way for a brighter and sustainable future.
