Cambodia Establishes Specialized Task Force to Rebuild Border Infrastructure and Restore Livelihoods

Government launches comprehensive recovery mission to repair schools, homes, and public facilities damaged by recent military tensions along the Thai-Cambodian frontier

The Royal Government of Cambodia has taken a decisive step toward regional stabilization by forming a dedicated working group tasked with managing the restoration of infrastructure and livelihoods along the Cambodia-Thailand border. According to a formal decision signed by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and released on December 30, 2025, this ad hoc committee is mandated to oversee the rehabilitation of essential services and property damaged during recent military incursions. The primary focus of the mission is to repair residential housing, educational institutions, and public infrastructure that suffered structural damage, ensuring that affected border communities can return to a state of normalcy as quickly as possible.

H.E. Chan Narith, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, has been appointed as the chairman of this multi-institutional task force. The committee’s structure includes vice-chairmen and members drawn from various relevant ministries and government agencies, reflecting a coordinated inter-ministerial approach to disaster recovery and border management. The working group is officially tasked with conducting detailed field studies and technical evaluations to assess the extent of the destruction and determine the specific needs of the local population. By centralizing the recovery efforts under a single specialized body, the government aims to ensure transparency and efficiency in the allocation of resources for reconstruction.

Beyond the physical reconstruction of buildings, the task force is also responsible for drafting comprehensive strategies to restore the socio-economic livelihoods of citizens living in the impacted border zones. This includes evaluating the immediate needs for food security, health services, and the resumption of cross-border trade which is vital for the local economy. The working group will serve as the primary bridge between the central government and provincial authorities, facilitating the rapid implementation of repair projects for damaged roads, irrigation systems, and communal facilities. This strategic initiative underscores Cambodia’s commitment to protecting its territorial integrity while prioritizing the welfare and safety of its frontline residents.
