Thais Citizens of Border Provinces Can Visit Angkor Wat Without Passports

The Cambodian government plans to allow Thais living in border provinces to visit Siem Reap and Angkor Wat without passports, while an inter-ministerial commission is preparing the detailed procedure.

Minister of Tourism HE Thong Khon unveiled this project during the meeting on 19 September, emphasizing this scheme is to boost tourism sectors.

If this scheme is approved and implemented, Thais living in Khmer-Thai border provinces will be allowed to visit those border provinces as well as Siem Reap by using a Border Pass.

Khmer-Thai border provinces include 1. Ubon Ratchathani bordering Preah Vihear. 2. Si Sa Ket bordering Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces. 3. Surin bordering Oddar Meanchey Province. 4. Buri Ram bordering Oddar Meanchey and Banteay Meanchey Provinces. 5. Sa Kaeo bordering Banteay Meanchey and Battambang Provinces. 6. Chanthaburi Province bordering Battambang and Bailin Provinces. 7. Trat province bordering Bailin, Battambang, Pursat, and Koh Kong provinces.

HE Thong Khon also claimed that Cambodia will benefit from tourism through the direct visit of Thai tourists living in those provinces.

The plan has been submitted for approval from the government, he added.
