Cambodia Boosts Agro-Industry with USD 342m Investment in 19 Large-Scale Rice & Grain Mills

Cambodia has significantly expanded its agro-industrial sector with the establishment of 19 large-scale rice and grain mills, backed by an investment of over USD 342 million, as announced by HE Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

In addition, there are 19,570 small and medium-sized rice mills across the country, collectively representing an investment of more than USD111 million, underscoring Cambodia’s ongoing focus on its agricultural infrastructure. These developments were unveiled during the 7th Cambodia Rice Forum on 10 September 2024.

According to a report from the Rice Federation of Cambodia, the country exported 412,023 tons of milled rice, valued at USD305 million, to 65 international markets in the first eight months of 2024. The European Union remains the largest importer, with 208,023 tons worth USD 161 million. China imported 77,792 tons valued at USD 48 million, while ASEAN countries received 83,095 tons, generating USD 56 million in revenue.

Cambodia also exported 3.3 million tons of paddy rice to neighbouring countries during the same period, earning USD 918 million. Notably, the country exported over 6 million tons of agricultural products in the first half of 2024, marking a 60% increase compared to the same period in 2023. (Read more)
