Cambodia Requests Loan from China to Build Longest River Crossing Bridge

The Cambodian government has a submitted a loan request to China for a loan for the kingdom’s longest river crossing bridge connecting Kampong Chhnang to Kampong Thom province, but thus far has yet to receive any response.

This is according to the Phnom Penh Post, quoting Director-General of Public Works HE Heng Rathpiseth.

Regarding the project the Ministry of Public Works and Transport spokesman HE Vasim Sorya previously told Construction & Property Magazine that the bridge will be built after the Kratie-Kampong Thom bridge project is completed as it is a secondary priority.

Plan to construct this bridge were announced by Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen in 2019, and the study as completed in June 2020.

HE Vasim Sorya added that if the Chinese government approves the loan, the project could possibly start soon, or as late as after 2023. (Read more)

According to the information at the time, the bridge is expected to be 3,900 metres long connecting Kampong Chhnang’s Kampong Leng district and Kampong Thom’s Stung Sen city.
