Cambodia to Construct Four New International Border Crossings to Enhance Connectivity

In a significant move to boost regional connectivity, the Cambodian government plans to establish four new international border crossings in Kratie, Takeo, Tboung Khmum, and Ratanakkiri provinces. This decision was announced during a recent meeting chaired by H.E. Peng Po Nea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, held on 3 March 2025.

The meeting focused on the Border Crossing Infrastructure Connectivity Project, funded by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), where officials reviewed a preliminary report and discussed potential locations for the new border crossings. The minister emphasised the importance of successfully implementing this project and the need to form a technical working group. This group will conduct thorough research on various factors including site selection, land requirements, geographical conditions, feasibility, and the necessary measures for land preparation and negotiations.

The designated locations for the new international border gates are Trapeang Sre in Kratie, Phnom Den in Takeo, Trapeang Phlong in Tboung Khmum, and O Yadav in Ratanakkiri. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport highlighted that these new crossings aim to enhance border gate infrastructure and facilitate smoother trade and travel between Cambodia and its neighbouring countries.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to improve cross-border infrastructure, fostering economic growth and regional collaboration.
