Cambodian Customs Revenue and Trade Volume Surge

In an impressive fiscal performance, Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise reported a remarkable collection of approximately USD 1,478.2 million in taxes and duties in the first half of 2025. This represents an increase of roughly 21% over the same period in 2024, equating to an additional 1,042.1 billion riels. This information was shared during a meeting on July 11, 2025, where officials discussed the achievements and future direction of the department.

The revenue breakdown reveals that value-added tax constitutes around 40.7% of total collections, followed by special tax at 35.1%, customs duties at 15.8%, additional tax on petroleum products at 3.9%, and export taxes, along with other fees, at about 4.4%. In terms of commodity groups, key contributors to revenue include vehicles and machinery at 36.2%, miscellaneous goods at 32.2%, fuel and energy at 23.7%, and construction materials at 7.9%.

On the trade front, Cambodia experienced robust growth, with total trade volume exceeding USD 30.57 billion—a 17.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Import trade accounted for USD 16.27 billion, reflecting an 18% rise, driven primarily by the need for raw materials such as textile products, machinery for investment projects, petroleum, vehicles, construction materials, and foodstuffs.

Conversely, exports reached USD 14.41 billion, marking a 16.1% gain compared to the first half of 2024. Notably, garment investment products surged by 22.1%, while non-garment investment products—including tires, electronic components, and various industrial goods—rose by 11.2%. Agricultural exports, including paddy, rice, potatoes, rubber, and bananas, increased by 4.4%.

Overall, these figures underscore Cambodia’s growing economic momentum and its expanding role in regional trade.
