Cambodia Secures Japanese Loan of US$154m to Establish Two New Hospitals in Two Provinces

PM Samdech Hun Manet has announced a landmark initiative by the Cambodian government to enhance healthcare services by constructing two regional hospitals in Kampong Cham and Siem Reap. This strategic move, unveiled during the 43rd Health Review Meeting on 19 March 2024, aims to address the growing demand for quality healthcare across the nation.

During the meeting, PM Hun Manet underscored the importance of bolstering healthcare infrastructure at both national and sub-national levels. Emphasising the need to bridge the gap between provinces and the capital, he highlighted the government’s commitment to gradually strengthening the health sector and enhancing the capabilities of local healthcare professionals.

To fund the ambitious project, Cambodia has secured a concessional loan agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), signifying a significant collaboration between the two nations. The loan agreement, inked by the Ministry of Economy and Finance on 14 March entails a generous provision of 21.104 billion yen, equivalent to approximately US$154 million, earmarked for the development of regional hospitals in Cambodia.
