China Boosts Cambodia’s Digital Transformation with High-Speed Mobile Network Expansion

Cambodia’s digital transformation has accelerated with China’s commitment to achieving 100% high-speed internet coverage in urban areas and 70% in rural regions by 2025.

Confirmed by HE Wang Winpin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, at the Cambodia-China Digital Economic Cooperation Forum on 4 November 2024, this initiative sees significant Chinese investment in enhancing Cambodia’s telecommunications infrastructure.

HE Wang highlighted the critical role of Chinese investors in expanding Cambodia’s mobile network, noting, “The Chinese side has been actively involved in the construction of the mobile network in Cambodia and has improved the system’s coverage across the country.”

The forum emphasized the importance of technological advancements to elevate Cambodians’ quality of life. Wang commended various Chinese enterprises for spearheading innovation through projects involving artificial intelligence (AI), cloud technology, and rapid payment systems.

Echoing Wang’s sentiments, Deputy Prime Minister Aun Porn Moniroth underscored the essential role of digital innovation in Cambodia’s growth, stating, “For Cambodia, the development of the digital economy is regarded as a vital driving force in our economic growth.”

As these efforts unfold, Cambodia is set to redefine its digital landscape, establishing a robust platform for enhanced connectivity and sustained economic development.
