China company wants to invest in additional special economic zones (SEZs) in Cambodia while constructing a new airport in Takhmao

Shanghai Geoharbour Group aims to expand its investments in SEZs and infrastructure in the country while building the Takhmao Techo International Airport. This information was shared during a meeting on October 21, 2024, between HE Sun Chanthol, the Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and a delegation from the Shanghai Geoharbour Group.

During the meeting, the delegation provided the Deputy Prime Minister background on their company, which has completed over 200 major projects across Asia, including ports, airports, and artificial islands. In Cambodia, the company is actively involved in the construction of Takhmao Techo International Airport, which will soon open.

Additionally, the company expressed interest in exploring further investment opportunities in special economic zones and infrastructure projects in Cambodia. In response, the Deputy Prime Minister briefed the delegation on ongoing infrastructure development projects, such as the Funan Techo Expressway and the Port Expressway, which present potential investment options for local and international investors, including Shanghai Geoharbour Group.

Recently, many Chinese investors have shown interest in investing in special economic zones in Cambodia. For instance, China’s Wanli Stone is evaluating the possibility of further investment in establishing a special economic zone in Cambodia while currently operating a marble and granite business in Kampong Speu Province. Furthermore, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Chaosan has announced plans to create a special economic zone on a 32-hectare area in Bati District, Takeo Province, to generate jobs for residents. (Read more)

Golden Port SEZ Development Co., Ltd. has presented plans to establish a special economic zone covering approximately 270 hectares along the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway in Sihanoukville soon. (Read more)
