Completion of Chinese-funded Morodok Techo Stadium Delayed to Early 2021

The construction of the Morodok Techo Stadium is now 80% complete, but work will not be finalized this year as scheduled. The project’s completion is now expected to be delayed until March 2021.

Secretary-general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia Vath Chamroeun said on 12 August that the delay is due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has imposed travel restrictions on Chinese experts and the import of construction materials.

“Based on valuation, the construction is about 80% complete. The remaining works are decoration works, which are expected to be achieves by March or April 2021, definitely by the SEA Games,” Mr Vath said.

The stadium is being built by China State Construction Engineering Corporation on over 94 hectares in Prek Ta Sek commune, Russey Keo district with US$160 million of Chinese grant aid.

With ground broken in April 2017, the stadium will be able to accommodate over 60,000 visitors upon completion and will be ready to host the 32nd SEA Games in 2023. (Read more)
