Construction of Mondulkiri Airport Moved to 2023, Prelim Study Completed

Construction of the Mondulkiri airport is expected to begin in 2023 as the investment firm will take at least one full year to conduct a comprehensive study on the recently-completed preliminary study, according to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA)’s spokesman.

SSCA spokesman Sin Chansereyvutha said this morning that although the preliminary report has been completed, there are other stages such as detailed study, revision and review before submission for the government’s approval.

“The preliminary study report focuses only on the project overview and the economic and social benefits. The investment company, China Power International Group, will conduct a detailed study on the commercial availability,” said Sin Chansereyvutha.

“Combining the timing of every stage together, the project might not start until 2023,” he added.

Located in Sen Monorom commune in Oreang district, the airport will be built on an area of 300 to 600 hectares and is estimated to cost over US$60 million.

The project is being studied and will be developed by China Power International Group in the form of a Build-Operate-Transfer agreement (BOT), according to the government’s decision last year. (Read more)
