Construction of New Cargo Terminal in the Pipeline

With the value of the international trade in goods on the rise along with demand for air cargo services, Cambodia Airports has revealed future plans to construct another cargo terminal in Phnom Penh International Airport in order to provide efficient cargo handling services.

Mr.Khek Norinda, the communications and PR director for Cambodia Airports said that the current “cargo facilities have sufficient capacity to handle the traffic in the short term”, therefore, the company is planning to develop more facilities in order to ensure the efficiency of the airport in the long run.

The timeline and the investment capital for the construction of a new cargo terminal are yet to be disclosed.“We are in the preliminary stages of the project and, at this point, our works have been focused on the conceptual design.” Mr.Khek Norinda said in an email response.

While Cambodia’s economy has grown at an impressive rate of 7% annually, the new cargo terminal will help boost international trade.

“The new cargo terminal is good because it will have a bigger cargo capacity,” said Mr Sinn Chanserey Vutha, spokesman for State Secretary of Civil Aviation (SSCA).

In the first six months of 2018, Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) reported US$1.2 billion in revenue.
