Construction of NR3 90% Complete, to Finish Ahead of Schedule

The National Road 3 (NR3) renovation project from Chom Chao roundabout to Kampot city has been 90% completed and will be finished ahead of schedule by September 2021, according to Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol.

HE Sun Chanthol told the press during the NR3 site inspection on 04 January that despite faster completion, the quality remains the same.

“The construction firms works smart on the technical side. They do not reduce the quality even though the construction timeline is faster than what we agreed,” he added.

HE Sun also said that there is no U-turn point according to the initial design, but now the team will add U-turn points as well, and those points with be designed with proper standards to avoid accidents.

The renovation project also includes two pedestrian bridges, two vehicle-scaling checkpoints, and 11-speed cameras. (Read more and more)

The renovation of NR3 has a total length of 134km, of which 69km section from Chom Chao to Bek Kous will be built as a four-lane road, and another 65km section from Bek Kous to Kampot provincial will be constructed as two lanes with asphalt concrete (AC).

The project is being implemented under a total fund of US$219 million, a concessional loan from the People’s Republic of China, and the Cambodian government budget.  (Read more)
