Construction of Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is 86% Complete

Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is nearing completion, with the construction work currently 86% finished, according to a meeting held between Prime Minister Hun Sen and Yunnan Investment Group on 6 March 2023.

The CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Liu Minglin, confirmed that the airport is expected to undergo a trial run in June, with the official launch scheduled for October 2023.

The prime minister urged the company to accelerate the pace of construction while ensuring that all technical standards are met before launching the flight. He also emphasised the airport’s critical role in connecting domestically and with other countries in the region and the world. It is designed to accommodate large aircraft landings, expected to attract more tourists and investors to Cambodia.

In addition to the airport, Yunnan Investment Group has expressed interest in investing in the solar energy sector in Siem Reap. The prime minister welcomed the company’s plans and suggested they consider setting up a solar panel factory in Cambodia that can be exported to foreign countries while also being utilized domestically.

The Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport project began construction in March 2020 and is situated in Tayek commune, Sot Nikum district, approximately 51km from Siem Reap city and 40km from Angkor Wat temple.

As the airport nears completion, it is expected to bolster tourism and economic development in the region, further enhancing Cambodia’s position as a key player in the ASEAN region.
