Construction on US$190 million Bakeng Water Treatment Facility to Start This Month

Construction on a water treatment facility located in Bakeng, in northern Phnom Penh, is set to start in late January, which, when complete, will have the capacity to supply 190,000 cubic metres of clean water per day.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be presided over by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen.

The budget for this project is more than US$190 million, co-financed by the French Development Agency, European Investment Bank, and Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority.

The project will be implemented by a firm called Vinci Construction Grands Projects.

In the first stage, US$155 million will be used to build the facility and pipelines. In the second phase, other US$45 million will be used to double treatment capacity to 390,000 cubic metres per day.

The phase one was approved since November 2019 while the second one was announced in 2020. However, the constructions of both phases have yet to begin. (Read more and more)
