CRBC Readies Equipment for Upcoming Mekong River Bridge Construction

China Road Bridge Corporation (CRBC) is preparing to commence the construction of the highly anticipated Mekong River Bridge, bringing in drilling equipment, machinery, and construction materials from China. The project marks a significant infrastructural development for Cambodia.

HE Phan Rim, Spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, announced on 6 July that CRBC has made substantial progress in the preparatory stages, with the construction of a temporary port for transporting materials reaching 80% completion and the access roads to the construction sites already finished.

“Drilling equipment, other machinery and construction materials imported from China will arrive in Cambodia to begin construction soon,” he stated.

The bridge project, aimed at connecting Xi Jinping Boulevard (Ring Road No. 3) with the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, will feature a concrete structure spanning 1,600 metres in length and 26 metres in width, including a 120-metre overpass crossing National Road No. 1. This ambitious project, funded by a development partner, broke ground on 7 June 2023 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, following a 48-month construction timeline. (Read more)

The completion of the Third Ring Road, recently renamed Xi Jinping Boulevard, underscores the bridge’s importance in linking the western and eastern areas of the Mekong River and enhancing connectivity with the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway. This corridor is poised to become a significant economic, tourism, and logistics hub for the country.
