$110 Million Cement Factory Opens in Kampot

The US$110 million Thai Bung Rong Cement Factory was inaugurated on the morning of 14 November 2019, bringing the total number of cement factories in the kingdom to five.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia presided over the inauguration ceremony of the plant which is built on a 700+ hectare plot in Dangtong district, Kampot province. When full operational, the Thai Bunrong Cement Factory is capable of producing 2,500 tons of cement per day or approximately 1 million tons per year.

According to a report from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Cambodia currently has five cement factories with a cumulative investment of US$800 million. Together, the five cement factories are able to produce about 8 million tons of cement products per year.

H.E. Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy said that the growth of the construction sector has pushed high demand for which Cambodia has had to import materiel to support local demand.

“In 2017 and 2018, we could support all local demand. But due to the growth of construction, buildings, and other infrastructure rapidly increasing in 2018 and 2019, the local produced cement products could not supply the demand which has pushed imports to fill the missing gap,” H.E. Suy Sem said.

The other four cement factories are; Kampot Cement Co., Ltd located in Dangtong district, Kampot with capacity of 2 million tons per year; Cambodia Cement Chakreyting Co., Ltd located in Kampot district, Kampot province with capacity of 1.1 million tons per year; Chip Mong Insee Cement Corporation located in Banteay Meas district, Kampot province with capacity of 2 million tons per year; and Battambang Conch Cement located in Ratanak Mondul district, Battambang
