140 MW solar project approved

Plans for solar projects in four provinces capable of generating power of up to 140 MW have been approved by the government.

The draft solar projects were unanimously approved in a plenary session of the National Assembly held on 23 December, citing that the solar projects are located in the four provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, and Svay Rieng.

Under the approved solar projects, Green Sustainable Ventures Co Ltd will invest in a 20 MW solar project in Svay Rieng province, Ray Power Supply Co Ltd will invest in a 30 MW solar project in Banteay Meanchey province, Risen Energy Co Lte will invest in a 60 MW solar project in Battambang province, and SchneiTec Infinite Co Ltd is to invest in a 30 MW project in Pursat province.

H.E. Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy, said in the plenary session that since demand for power has increased with a high rate and response to the ongoing demand, the Ministry of Mines and Energy has urged for development of the energy sector in both energy sources and energy transmission lines to ensure a stable, efficient and affordable supply.

Currently, 90 MW linked to the grid is being generated from two solar projects including a 10 MW solar farm in Bavet town and an 80 MW solar farm in Kampong Speu province.
