60-megawatt solar power station starts generation to the national grid

A 60-megawatt solar power station in Kampong Chhnang province’s Toek Pos district has finally started operation, generating power to the national grid, becoming the third operational solar station in Cambodia.

The solar power station is an investment by Scheitech Renewable Co Ltd and the station construction began in early 2019, said Vector Zona, Director-General of Energy and spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

“The operation of the solar station is a new source of clean energy injected into the national grid in addition to the other two existing solar power stations,” said Jona.

The price of electricity from this solar power station in Kampong Chhnang sold to Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) is $ 0.076 per kilowatt-hour, according to the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) of the investment project.

Notably, Cambodia has already sourced power from the other two solar power stations. The first solar power station is the 10-megawatt project invested by Sunseap in Bavet City, Svay Rieng province. The second solar station is the 80-megawatt power plant in Kampong Speu Province, which is a joint venture between JinkoSolar and ScheiTec Group. The Kampong Chhnang solar power station is counted to be the third national solar power plant.

In the meantime, Cambodia is awaiting other four solar power stations, which are currently under construction. They are expected to be completed by the end of 2020, with a total capacity of 140 megawatts.
