Cambodia Achieves Remarkable Industrial Growth: Over 40k Factories and Enterprises Flourish

As of December 2023, Cambodia has witnessed an exceptional surge in its industrial landscape, boasting a total of 40,840 factories. Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet shared this significant milestone during the inauguration ceremony of the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Koh Yor Bridge in Mondul Seima district, Koh Kong province, on 8 January 2024.

Highlighting the government’s strategic policies, PM Hun Manet emphasized the concerted efforts to foster the establishment of factories and enterprises across the provincial landscape. This initiative aims to create employment opportunities and livelihoods for communities nearby.

The PM reflected on Cambodia’s transformative journey, noting that in 1997, the nation had a mere 64 factories and enterprises, employing approximately 80,000 workers. Fast forward to December 2023, and the industrial landscape has expanded exponentially, with 40,840 factories employing a staggering 1.7 million workers.

Under the auspices of the Cambodian government, the 7th legislature of the National Assembly remains steadfast in championing the protection of rights and freedoms, maintaining labor harmony, and securing benefits for workers. The commitment extends to providing social protection as part of the inaugural phase of the pentagonal strategy.
