Cambodia & Laos Forge Stronger Agricultural Ties to Expand Mango Exports

In a significant move to enhance agricultural trade, Cambodia and Laos have reached an agreement to boost the export of Cambodian mango products to third countries via Laos’ high-speed rail system. This announcement was made during an official visit from 30 April – 3 May 2025, where HE Dith Tina, Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, met with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture of Laos.

The new collaboration aims to leverage Laos’ railway infrastructure to facilitate the efficient transport of Cambodian agricultural goods, particularly mangoes, to lucrative markets, including China and beyond. By utilising the high-speed rail, both nations hope to open new trade avenues that will benefit their respective agricultural sectors.

In addition to mango exports, the discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening international cooperation in agriculture for the mutual benefit of both countries. The Cambodian delegation’s visit also included learning about potash extraction processes—crucial for manufacturing agricultural fertilisers—and fostering connections for Cambodian investors interested in potash-based fertiliser production.

This partnership marks a promising step towards enhancing food security and economic growth in both Cambodia and Laos, emphasising their commitment to developing sustainable agricultural trade routes.
