Cambodia’s Cashew Sector Flourishes with Over 580k Hectares of Plantations and 839k tons, a 36% increase, in 2024

Cambodia’s cashew industry has reached new heights, with more than 580,000 hectares of cashew plantations nationwide, yielding an average of 1.5 tons per hectare. This key development was highlighted by PM Samdech Hun Manet, who announced on 12 September 2024 that cashew farming is one of Cambodia’s strategic agricultural sectors.

During the first seven months of 2024, Cambodia produced over 830,000 tons of raw cashew nuts, representing a remarkable 36.7% increase in production. This achievement has solidified Cambodia’s position as the world’s second-largest exporter of cashew nuts.

In a bid to dominate the global market, the Royal Government has enacted the “National Policy on Cashew 2022-2027” with the vision of becoming the leading exporter of cashew nuts.

The Ministry of Agriculture is also aligning with the government’s 7th legislature by creating a modern agricultural cashew community to connect local farmers to the global market. This integrated approach aims to leverage Cambodia’s growing cashew production to further expand its influence and competitiveness in the international arena.
