Henan Province in China Seeks Investment Opportunities in Cambodia’s Agro-Industrial Sector

In a significant development for Cambodia’s agricultural landscape, officials from Henan province, China, known for its substantial market potential with a population exceeding 100 million, have expressed their intention to invest in the agro-industrial processing sector in Cambodia.

During a meeting on 28 May 2025, HE Lim Lokpiseth, Secretary of State for Commerce, met with Mr. Sun Shougang, Vice Governor of Henan Province. The discussions centred on enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and agro-industrial collaboration.

Vice Governor Sun emphasised the critical role of strengthening ties between the two regions, announcing plans for the Henan Provincial Chamber of Commerce to lead a delegation to Cambodia this year. This mission aims to explore promising trade and investment opportunities within the agro-industrial processing sector.

In a related effort, Secretary Lim encouraged Chinese businesses to increase imports of key Cambodian products such as cashews, mango seedlings, and bananas. He also urged them to consider direct investments in the agro-processing sector, highlighting the potential for value-added production that could benefit both economies.

The meeting also included discussions with Ms. Chen Xuemei, President of Chen Sun Fruits and Vegetable Trading Co., Ltd., a major wholesaler in Henan. Her company has a history of importing fruits and agricultural products from Cambodia, which are then distributed within the Henan market.

Additionally, a delegation from Wuxi, Jiangsu province, has expressed its commitment to promoting investment in Cambodia. They have outlined plans to establish two new special economic zones focusing on technology and agro-industry, further bolstering Cambodia’s economic development.

This initiative marks a promising step towards strengthening the trade relationship between China and Cambodia, particularly in the vital agriculture sector.
