Phnom Penh: Leveraging space technology and satellite applications has emerged as a transformative frontier for expanding digital economies, strengthening environmental stewardship, and accelerating sustainable development. On the morning of September 29, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth delivered a keynote address to open the Cambodia-Japan “Co-Creation” Networking Symposium and Business Matching. The high-level gathering was presided over alongside Minister of Environment Eang Sophalleth, convening approximately 150 leaders and representatives from Japanese and Cambodian private enterprises, international development partners, and key government ministries.

The symposium was structured to foster institutional networks and strategic business partnerships between Japanese and Cambodian stakeholders, with a dedicated focus on the space sector, scientific research, and technological innovation. Through cross-border collaboration, the initiative aims to catalyze green growth, bolster environmental protection, accelerate national digital transformation, and unlock new commercial opportunities within the emerging space economy.

Addressing the delegates, Minister Chea Vandeth highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing strategic initiatives, specifically the drafting of the National Space Policy and a comprehensive 5-Year National Space Program. These policy frameworks are designed to establish a robust national space ecosystem and stimulate space-related economic activities. The objective is to harness space technologies for economic growth, environmental monitoring, enhanced public service delivery, and human resource development. To support these long-term ambitions, the Ministry has awarded Master’s and Doctoral scholarships to 48 Cambodian students to pursue specialized space technology degrees abroad.

The Cambodia-Japan “Co-Creation” Space Economy Symposium represents a significant milestone in Cambodia’s pursuit of high-tech and sustainable development.
