Authorities Mull Building New Clean Water Treatment Plant in West Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh Governor HE Khuong Sreng has requested the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) to build a new clean water treatment plant on Prek Tnaot River, west of Phnom Penh, to increase clean water supply three districts on the outskirts of Phnom Penh’s that currently lack of clean water usage.

HE Khuong Sreng unveiled the proposal during a meeting with PPWSA Director General HE Long Naro on Tuesday 16 November.

“The plant can be built along the Stung Prek Thnaot River, using water from Prek Tnaot River to produce clean water. The water will be supplied to districts such as Kambol, Dangkor and Por Sen Chey,” said HE Khuong Sreng.

PPWSA recently revealed plans to increase the water supply by 30,000 cubic metres for Takhmao city in 2024 and by 60,000 cubic metres in 2030.​ (Read more)

Currently, the daily demand for clean water in Phnom Penh and Takhmao city is more than 700,000 cubic metres, while the production of clean water from PPWSA is only about 600,000 cubic metres.
