Bassac River Crossing Project (Chak Angre Krom – Prek Pra)  Progresses Towards Completion, Reaching 14.5%

The Bassac River Crossing Project, linking Chak Angre Krom and Prek Pra, has achieved 14.5% completion by mid-October 2024, marking significant progress in the infrastructure development initiative. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport provided this update on 17 October 2024, highlighting that the project began on 19 February 2024 and is steadily advancing towards its goal.

Once finished, the new 1,650-metre bridge will play a pivotal role in easing traffic congestion on the existing Monivong Bridge, which currently connects across the Bassac River to National Road No. 1 in Chbar Ampov district. The bridge’s completion is expected to boost the region’s economic potential, improving access between Phnom Penh and southern areas, including the Techo Krong International Airport in Takhmao. Additionally, the bridge is set to enhance logistics efficiency and support socio-economic development across the Phnom Penh metropolitan area.

The construction features an 845.7-meter bridge with a 27-meter-wide roadway, seamlessly connecting to an 804.3-meter approach road that measures 27 meters in width. Shanghai Construction Company is leading the construction industry, and Guangzhou Wan An provides consultancy services. The project is funded through a USD 60.2 million concessional loan from the Chinese government, while the Royal Government of Cambodia is contributing to handling additional project needs, such as demining, addressing unexploded ordnance, and covering other associated taxes.

The Bassac River Crossing is part of Cambodia’s broader infrastructure development strategy, aiming to strengthen connectivity, reduce travel time, and improve city residents’ quality of life. (Read more)
