Cambodia Celebrates Inauguration of First Durian Packing Plant for International Export

In a significant boost to the agricultural sector, Cambodia has officially opened its first durian packing plant for international export in Chantong Village, Sralob Commune, located in Tbong Khmum District. The facility, established by HF FRUIT LTD, aims to enhance the export of Cambodian durians, specifically targeting the lucrative Chinese market.

The provincial government has expressed its support for this landmark investment, emphasizing its potential to empower local farmers. “This is a historic moment for Cambodia’s agricultural landscape,” said Mr. Heng Pisith, Director of the Tbong Khmum Provincial Department of Agriculture. “For the first time, farmers in Tbong Khmum can sell their durians at competitive prices while ensuring quality standards that meet international requirements.”

The new plant will process durians based on size, type, and quality, with purchasing decisions aligned with market prices. This strategic move is expected to significantly lower operational costs for farmers and encourage higher standards in production.

Currently, Cambodia boasts 5,289 hectares of durian farms, producing approximately 36,656 tons annually, with 950 hectares designated for durian cultivation in Tbong Khmum Province alone. The establishment of the packing plant not only opens the door to export opportunities beyond neighboring Thailand and Vietnam but also strengthens the country’s position as a competitive player in the global durian market.

As the plant begins operations, local farmers are optimistic about the future. The initiative represents not just an economic opportunity but a pathway to elevate the quality and recognition of Cambodian durians on the world stage.

With these advancements, Cambodia is poised to cultivate a prominent presence in the international agricultural market, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic growth and sustainability.
