Cambodia Designates Lva Village in Battambang Province as Key Model Village

In a significant step toward rural development, the Cambodian government has designated Lva village in Battambang province as a key model village. This initiative aims to enhance local living standards and promote sustainable development in rural areas.

On 3 March 2025, His Excellency Chhay Rithsen, Minister of Rural Development, led a delegation to inspect Lva village in Lva commune, Bavel district. This inspection followed a request from the Battambang Provincial Department of Rural Development, eager to transform Lva into a model for other villages across the country.

Located on 564 hectares, Lva village comprises 64 hectares of agricultural land, over 1 hectare of community space, and 460 hectares of residential land. The village is home to 369 houses, accommodating 616 families. The infrastructure in Lva is robust, featuring a school, a health centre, a market, a multipurpose community centre, a network of roads, and three canals spanning a total of 2.6 kilometres. Furthermore, its proximity to the Mongkol Borey River ensures a steady water supply, enabling local farmers to cultivate rice multiple times a year.

The Ministry of Rural Development has ambitious plans to develop at least 50 model villages annually between 2025 and 2028, targeting areas with indigenous communities and other villages showing potential.
