Cambodia, Japan Join Hands to Boost Wastewater Management Nationwide

The Ministry of Public Works and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Cambodia have collaborated to promote the development of wastewater management and sanitation in Cambodia, according to a technical subcommittee on urban wastewater and sanitation meeting on 6 February. 

The meeting focused on challenges such as the lack of human resources in the field of wastewater and sanitation, while also discussing policies, regulations and strategic plans to promote the implementation of projects effectively. 

By 2020, 61.71% of Cambodians living in major cities and towns had access to clean water with four wastewater treatment plants under operation. 

Currently, six more wastewater treatment plants are under design and construction with a total capacity to treat up to 82,500 cubic metres of wastewater per day. 

HE Ros Vanna, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, stated that water and sanitation are very important for promoting public health and well-being.
