Cambodian Government Plans Significant Budget Increase for 2026

In a move aimed at bolstering national revenue, the Cambodian government has announced plans to raise the state budget for 2026 to approximately 32.7 trillion riel, equivalent to about USD 8.1 billion. This initiative, disclosed by HE Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, during a workshop focused on macroeconomic policy and public financial management, aims to increase the current state budget revenue to 14.56% of the nation’s GDP.

The proposed budget reflects a commitment to maintain robust economic growth. According to HE Aun Pornmoniroth, while the total state budget revenue is slated to hit USD 8.1 billion, the overall state budget expenditure is projected at around 40.9 trillion riel (USD 10.1 billion), marking a 7.8% increase from the previous year. Of this expenditure, approximately 27.3 trillion riels (USD 6.8 billion) will be allocated to current state budget expenditures, representing 12.59% of the expected borrowing limit for 2026.

In addition to these fiscal projections, the Royal Government has forecasted a GDP growth rate of approximately 5.0% for 2026, following an expected growth of 5.2% in 2025. Furthermore, GDP per capita is anticipated to rise to USD 3,020, up from USD 2,858 in 2025.

As Cambodia navigates the complexities of economic management, these budgetary plans reflect the government’s strategy for sustainable development and improved public financial policies moving forward.
