Cambodia’s Industrial Surge: Factories Flourish and Exports Soar

The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has unveiled a promising report showing a steady increase in the number of factories and enterprises across the nation. As of the first half of 2025, the total registration of factories and enterprises surged to 45,656, up by 858 from 44,798 in 2024.

Notably, the garment sector has experienced significant growth, with the number of factories rising from 1,566 at the end of 2024 to 1,682 by June 2025—a jump of 116 enterprises. In contrast, the non-garment sector also saw an impressive increase, with 43,974 factories reported, an increase of 742 from the previous year’s total of 43,232.

The garment, footwear, and travel products industries stand as the backbone of Cambodia’s economy, employing nearly 1 million workers, a majority of whom are women. This sector continues to be a vital source of production in the Kingdom.

In line with these growth trends, the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia reported a robust export performance. In the first half of 2025, Cambodia’s exports of clothing, footwear, and travel products reached approximately USD 7.38 billion, marking a remarkable 22 percent increase compared to USD 6.02 billion during the same period last year.

On the import side, Cambodia brought in around USD 3.48 billion worth of raw materials for the garment sector, up 21.43 percent from USD 3.14 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The continuous growth in both production and exports reflects Cambodia’s strengthening position in the global market, promising a positive outlook for its economy in the coming years.
