Cambodia’s Rice Sector Achieves Remarkable Milestone with Nearly USD 2 Billion in Revenue for 2024

In a significant boost to its economy and food security, Cambodia’s rice sector has generated nearly USD 2 billion in revenue for the year 2024. This milestone was celebrated during the 10th anniversary of the Cambodian Rice Federation, held on June 16, 2025, and attended by His Excellency Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, along with various stakeholders.

Over the past decade, the Cambodian rice industry has balanced the critical aspects of food security while expanding its trade footprint, exporting over 651,000 tons of rice and 5.1 million tons of paddy in 2024 alone, generating a total of approximately USD 1.987 billion.

Notably, the rice sector has attracted significant investment, with the number of rice milling facilities skyrocketing from fewer than 10 to over 80, now equipped with the latest cutting-edge technology. This transformation has positioned Cambodia as a key player in the global rice market.

Speaking at the anniversary ceremony, HE Sun Chanthol credited the Cambodian Rice Federation’s achievements to effective government policies and collaboration among relevant ministries and institutions. He emphasized the importance of enhancing Cambodia’s role on the international stage in rice exports, particularly with upcoming infrastructure developments like the Funan Techo Canal, which promises to streamline transportation and bolster the supply chain for Cambodian rice products.

As of 2024, the agricultural sector remains a vital component of Cambodia’s economy, contributing approximately 16.7% to the gross domestic product, with the total value added expected to rise to USD 7.82 billion in the coming years. (Read more)
