China to Fund Three More Major Infrastructure Developments in Cambodia

China is planning to sign more agreements funding at least three major infrastructure development projects in Cambodia, including installing submarine optic cables, restoring NR 71C, and the improving rural power transmission line phase 7.

The Chinese government stated the intention during an official meeting between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister HE Hor Namhong and Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China HE Wang Yi State on 11 October.

According to the HE Hor Namhong, eight projects will be implemented using loans and grants from the Cambodia-China 2020 package.

Among them, the projects awaiting for both parties to sign the agreements include the Sihanoukville-Hong Kong submarine optic cable project, the construction of NR 71C, the rural power transmission line project phase 7, as well as the rice production and export enhancement project.

Besides these, some others are also being studied, such as the expansion and upgrade of NR 41, NR 33, and NR 31, and the construction of irrigation and flood protection system on the Prek Thnaot River.

HE Wang Yi also said that the Chinese government has also provided grant aid of approximately US$140 million for urgent development projects in Cambodia.
