China Town Rises in Cambodia Coastal Area

Beautiful Otres Beach in Sihanoukville, which was once a quiet and relaxing place, is beginning to see the rapid development of buildings and skyscrapers, and a busy environment.

In recent years, the coastal areas in Sihanoukville have seen rapid development on various projects particularly the booming construction on Otres 1 beach, most of which are being developed by Chinese companies.

The development project along Otress 1 beach is an attractive one as the project covers lots of hectares of land as well as the diversification of the project as if a modern city is going to showcase in the future.

During a visit by Construction&Property Magazine in early December, 2018, we also noted the booming construction in the area of which there is no information displaed on the construction site.

However, a resident of Sihanoukville, who did not want to be named, said that this project is called China Town. Meanwhile, travel site Travel Channel-Cambodia also shows that China Town is being built on the Cambodian real estate with a video showing the construction site.

On the other hand, when we travelled to this construction site, we observe that many instruction signs are written in Chinese and Khmer language.

At the same time, the challenge for this rapid development is managing infrastructure, roads, sewerage systems, pumping station, traffic, and security, of which the provincial authorities are trying to improve their ability to manage and solve these problems to ensure the sustainability of development.
