Chinese Company Sets Sights on Durian Cultivation and Processing in Cambodia

In a significant move to enhance agricultural exports, a Chinese company, Zhengzhou Chen’s Sun, has expressed keen interest in investing in durian cultivation and establishing processing facilities in Cambodia. This initiative was prominently discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Xuemei Chen, the Chairman of Zhengzhou Chen’s Sun, on November 6, 2024, in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China.

During the meeting, Ms. Chen emphasized Cambodia’s vast potential in the agricultural sector, particularly within the fruit industry. She highlighted durian, often referred to as the “king of fruits,” as a prime candidate for cultivation and processing aimed at both domestic and international markets. Her vision includes bolstering export capabilities to China and other countries.

Experts believe Ms. Chen’s investment plan could generate numerous job opportunities, raise incomes, and enhance the quality of life for many Cambodians. As the country looks to increase its agricultural exports, the participation of foreign investors like Zhengzhou Chen’s Sun is viewed as a positive development.

Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the investment interest from foreign firms, noting Cambodia’s competitiveness in a wide range of agricultural products suitable for export. He encouraged Ms. Chen and her team to continue engaging with relevant ministries and local partners to turn their investment plans into tangible results in the near future.

This collaboration could mark a new chapter for Cambodia’s agricultural landscape as it strives to seize opportunities in the global market.
