Chinese Firm to Build US$1.1 billion Coal-fired Power Plant in Koh Kong

Chinese firm Sinosteel Engineering & Technology last week signed an agreement with Botum Sakor Energy to build a US$1.1 billion 700-megawatt coal-fired power in Koh Kong, according to yicaiglobal.com.

Sinosteel Equipment & Engineering will receive the money and take charge of the design, procurement and supply of the equipment and materials as well as construction and commissioning services.

The contract includes the construction of a new 350-megawatt power plant, ancillary production and transmission facilities, as well as a coal terminal. Construction on the first phase is scheduled to be completed within 36 months after the groundbreaking, and the second phase will take 48 months.

The statement did not specify the location of the project but indicated that the power plant’s boilers will be furnished with a seawater cooling system.

The project was approved by parliament in March as the Royal Group will manage the Botum Sakor Energy development project. (Read more)
