Chinese Premier Li Keqiang pledges to support development of Sihanoukville

Chinese Premier H.E Li Keqiang has pledged to support the development of Sihanoukville amid massive development made by Chinese investors.

The commitment was made at a meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia and H.E Li Keqiang on the sidelines of the 35th ASEAN Summit held in Bangkok.

According to a Facebook post by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the two sides discussed three issues; firstly, H.E Li Keqiang said that the two countries will discuss grant aid that will help with the development of Sihanoukville at the request of Cambodia.

Second, the Chinese premier also agreed to support the 5th Meeting of the Cambodia-China Intergovernmental Committee regarding the budget of the two countries.

The two parties also discussed the issue of sub-regional meetings.

Sihanoukville has attracted significant investment recent years. As of early 2019, more than 819 construction projects were approved just for the province alone. (Read More)

In addition, construction on 34 new roads in Sihanoukville will star soon, which facilitate support for other developments. (Read More)
